In this series we’re exploring the Human Design New Year as an alternative to the Gregorian calendar.
The Human Design New Year starts when the sun moves into Gate 41, but this won’t happen until January 21, 2023! From now until then, the sun will be moving through five gates that precede the initiatory energy of Gate 41 with their own energies that can affect all of us.
Follow along and learn how to use these energies to your advantage and take back your New Year.
December 30, 2022 — Gate 38
Today the sun moves into Gate 38, the gate of the fighter and the energy of opposition. This energy is meant for confronting adversity and the preservation of self through opposition to specific detrimental forces, but without direction or discernment it can result in fighting for the sake of the fight.
Instead, we can use this energy to learn about opposition and what it means to resolve it.

January 5, 2023 — Gate 54
Today the sun moves into Gate 54, the Gate of Drive and the energy of personal potential and ambition. This is the energy that has most of us sticking to our resolutions for the first week or so of the new year.
Gate 54 corresponds to Hexagram 54 in the IChing, Marrying the Maiden. This metaphor can represent one who is willing to sacrifice their integrity and uniqueness to avoid personal responsibility, or someone who is young and inexperienced with themselves and the world, and therefore more malleable by the collective ego. Either way, this energy wants us to improve ourselves and our station in life.

January 10, 2023 — Gate 61
Today the sun moves into Gate 61, the Gate of Mystery and Inner Truth. This shift from root to head energy can be distracting, overwhelming even.
Inner Truth refers to the “treasure chest of inner truth” that each one of us is born with, as well as the truth within situations. This gate certainly puts on the pressure to know the unknowable, but it is best expressed without expectation. When we find a stillness within ourselves, like a reflective lake, the truth can be recognized absolutely by our inner senses.

January 16, 2023 — Gate 60

Today the sun moves into Gate 60, the Gate of Limitation and Acceptance.
This is the pressure of restraint necessary for energy to mutate into form, but mutation is a process in itself. You may be experiencing limitation in the sense of the false limitations of the collective ego, but Hexagram 60 outlines that the only true limitations are that which are set forth by the Cosmic Whole.
*A disclaimer: There is so much more I want to say about Gate 60 and it’s relevance, specifically to the limitations of systemic oppression; racism, classism, etc. These are real limitations in our world which greatly affect a vast number of people and their ability to grow and progress. It can be tempting to spiritually bypass these realities through the definition of Gate 60. However in the IChing, Hexagram 60 distinguishes that any limitations which are set by the collective ego serve to distort our perspective and divorce us from the Cosmic whole—to remain under the false control of the collective ego and are thereby not in Cosmic Harmony. This should seem obvious, but we continue to divide each other and ourselves by race, class, gender, education, and so on. We can know that these very real limitations built upon ideas from the collective ego must be dismantled if we want to see the liberation of all folks. Yes they are real and must be addressed, because they are false limitations not based on the Cosmic Principle of Harmony. Perhaps this will become its own video in the future.
January 21, 2023 — Gate 41
Happy Human Design New Year!
Today the sun moves into Gate 41, the Gate of Contraction and the energy of decrease. Also known as the Gate of Fantasy, this energy is a desire for all of the possibilities to exist and the mounting pressure that launches us into a new experience. Hexagram 41 teaches us that decrease leads to exponential increase. When we decrease the superficial ego we not only align ourselves with Cosmic Harmony, but we also create the space for Helpers to aid in our growth and progress. In this video we talk about decreasing the superficial ego through the rejection of seed phrases, using the “Inner No,” and allowing ourselves to imagine all that is possible. Happy New Year, friends!
